Research interest: podocyte phenotype in MCD, FSGS and CGP. PI in the
collaborative study for the NIH/NYU registry for podocytopathies.
My major interest is in the podocyte phenotype in nephrotic syndrome.
We are establishing an international Podocyte Disease Registry, based at
the NIH, with the goals of 1) refining and extending a new podocyte disease
classification that combines morphologic and molecular diagnostic approaches
and has predictive value for response to therapy and clinical outcome.
2) Facilitate collaborative studies among pathologists and interaction
of basic researchers with more clinically oriented physicians to elucidate
the molecular mechanism of cell damage in nephrotic syndromes and
their clinical relevance. The registry/database will also serve as a model
for future registries for other kidney diseases.
I am interested in studying podocyte markers which may have relevance
in the pathogenesis of the different forms of nephrotic syndrome.
