MINUTES OF THE RENAL PATHOLOGY SOCIETY BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

The Renal Pathology Society (RPS) held a Board of Directors meeting on Friday, November 11, 2005 during the annual meeting of the ASN at the Philadelphia Marriott, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Meeting was called to order by RPS President Dr. Lorraine Racusen.

In attendance were Drs. Racusen, Liapis, Seshan, Truong, Nickeleit, Jennette, Bruijn, Picken, Walker, Bonsib, and Herrera.

Dr. Racusen, President RPS, opened the meeting and announced:

  1. Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Dr. Gloria Gallo at membership meeting.
  2. Memorials for Drs. Pirani and Churg, founding fathers of the RPS, at the 2006 US-CAP meeting; family members to be invited.  Ultrastructural Pathology will honor Dr. Pirani by dedicating complete issue, which will include presentations at the 2006 USCAP.  Specific arrangements were discussed and will be announced to the RPS membership at later time.
  3. In 2007, the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Renal Pathology Club, the beginnings of the RPS will be celebrated.  A program will be prepared to celebrate this occasion
  4. Association with KUFA going well-KUFA sponsors satellite meetings held in conjunction with USCAP meetings
  5. RPS will provide KUFA with progress report detailing impact of the association.
  6. KUFA renal biopsy data bank on hold due to retirement of Dr. Banks.
  7. Possibility of educational program jointly with KUFA (one-day program) addressing multidisciplinary subject (i.e. GU neoplasms) was discussed.
  8. KUFA is seeking RPS help in fundraising activities.
  9. Auditing Committee will be charged with developing new fundraising strategies.  Committee’s name to change to Financial Committee.  Bylaws change to follow upon approval by RPS membership
  10. American Board of Pathology certification-input has been requested from RPS as to subjects that should be included in questions for recertification examination.  Dr. Seshan was charged with forming a subcommittee to develop suggestions.

Chairs of various committees discussed the reports of activities conducted and in progress (copies of reports attached.

  1. Several members of the RPS were at the European Society of Pathology Meeting in France in September.  RPS literature, including membership forms, was distributed.  Excellent scientific session dealing with a variety of renal subjects.

The BOD unanimously agreed to strengthen ties with the Renal Pathology European Working Group.
