MINUTES OF THE RENAL PATHOLOGY SOCIETY BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING The Renal Pathology Society (RPS) held a Board of Directors meeting on February 27, 2005 during the annual meeting of the USCAP at the Marriott Riverwalk Hotel, San Antonio, Texas. Meeting was called to order by RPS President Dr. Lorraine Racusen. In attendance were Drs. Jennette, Nickeleit, Seshan, Haas, Bruijn, Fogo, Picken, Walker, Bonsib, Truong, and Herrera. |
Dr. Racusen discussed RPS participation in the KUFA renal biopsy databank project. She proposed to form an RPS committee to oversee activities relating to this project. There are many advantages to the RPS membership by participating in this project. RPS projects can be designed with the aid of the databank. In addition, multi-institutional clinical trials for a variety of renal diseases with central collection of cases can be facilitated. The BOD unanimously agreed that joining the KUFA database project would be advisable. Dr. Racusen indicated that KUFA asked for RPS endorsement and participation in the Dream Car Raffle project. The RPS BOD agreed to help support this initiative. Dr. Racusen will send letters to membership to seek their support of this project. Dr. Racusen proposed to award to Gloria Gallo a Lifetime Career Achievement Award plaque (award) for her many contributions to Renal Pathology. The plaque was presented to Dr. Gallo by Drs. Barisoni and Seshan. Dr. Racusen also proposed to name the Young Investigator Award, the Lilliane Striker Young Investigator Award. All members of the BOD unanimously agreed upon these proposals. Dr. Gallo has offered to donate Tree of Life renditions in her possession to RPS for fund raising. Dr. Racusen indicated that the deadline for accepting proposals for ISN/COMGAM was extended for one month. This is a great opportunity for supporting a worthwhile project and participation by submitting proposals by RPS membership should be encouraged. Dr. Racusen also indicated that all committees have submitted their role/vision/objectives statements, which will be saved for future reference and altered as these committees change their aims and functions. Committee chairs briefly outlined the activities of the previous year, which are detailed in their respective reports. It was announced that at the next IAP meeting in Montreal (2006) there will be 2 renal pathology sessions. A reception for RPS members attending this meeting was proposed and will be considered in terms of feasibility. The same was proposed for the World Congress of Nephrology in Singapore. No final decision was reached and further discussions will be carried out. |
