RE: RPS Functions at the ASN; Young Investigator Award Nominations
The Renal Pathology Society will meet during the November 1997 ASN meeting in San Antonio. Dr. Cynthia Nast will moderate the Scientific Symposium "Chronic Renal Allograft Rejection" with presentations by Dr. Leendert C. Paul (Pathogenetic Considerations), Dr. Hallgrimur Benediktsson (Pathologic Features), and Dr. Bertram L. Kasiske (Clinical Aspects, Risk Factors, and Therapy). The Symposium will be in the River Room at the San Antonio Convention Center, Sunday, November 2, 1997 from 7:20 am to 9:00 am.
The RPS business meeting will be held at the Mariott Rivercenter in Conference Room 12, at 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 2. The business meeting will be followed by a reception from 7:00 to 8:30 in Conference Room 11.
Dr. Agnes Fogo will chair the short course, "The Renal Biopsy: Interpretation and Clinical Application" on Tuesday, November 4, 4:00-6:00 in the Mission Room of the Convention Center. Although Drs Alpers, Cohen, DAgati, Jennette, Korbet and Rennke are listed as the faculty, it is the RPS members who have enthusiastically signed up for microscope duty on the days preceding the course who will be demonstrating the value of the nephropathologist in the diagnosis and management of renal disease.
Members are urged to submit nominations for the RPS Young Investigator Award. Candidates for the award (which includes $500) must be first author on an abstract submitted to the 1997 ASN meeting and must be nominated by a RPS member to be considered. An announcement and nomination form is included in this mailing. Please FAX your nominations to Dr. DAgati [(212) 305-2301] no later than Monday, October 27, 1997.
At the 1998 USCAP Meeting, in addition to another Young Investigator Award, the second annual Jacob Churg Award will be given to an individual who has made major contributions to the field of Nephropathology. The recipient will be selected by the Nominating and Awards Committee from nominations submitted to the Committee by RPS members.
Those wishing to nominate someone for the Jacob Churg Award should send a nominating letter and the nominees C.V. by January 31, 1998 to the 1998 Chair of the Nominations and Awards Committee, Dr. Arthur Cohen, Department of Pathology, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, 8700 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90048. It is not inappropriate for an individual to be nominated by more than one member.
