WINNER OF YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD
Dr. Tsuyoshi Oikawa won the fall 1996 Young Investigator Award for work that was done in the laboratory of Dr.
Agnes Fogo. Members are encouraged to nominate young investigators for the 1997 awards. Please telephone or

MINUTES
The minutes from the Business Meeting at the November NKF/ASN meeting are enclosed. A number of important
issues were raised.
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE BYLAWS
The Board of Directors has recommended the establishment of a new Standing Committee to deal with encouraging,
facilitating and initiating collaborative research among the members. In accordance with the Bylaws, the proposal is
on the ballot for your consideration.
ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS
As noted in the minutes, nominations for new officers are Dr. Robert Colvin for Vice President (President Elect), and
Dr. Helmut Rennke and Dr. Melvin Schwartz for the one open Councillor seat. In accordance with the Bylaws,
election will be by mail vote of regular members. A ballot is enclosed in this mailing. Please return it by January 10,
1997.
AT THE USCAP MEETING, MARCH 1997
Renal Pathology Society functions at the USCAP Meeting this March will include the Companion Meeting, the
Business Meeting , a reception, a dinner in honor of pioneers in the field of Nephropathology, and the Renal
Pathology Specialty Conference.
The Renal Pathology Companion Meeting at the USCAP meeting will be held on March 2 from 8:30 AM until noon. The symposiumÌs theme is "New Approaches to Renal Biopsy Diagnosis and Prognosis" with Dr Agnes Fogo, moderator, and talks by Dr. Cynthia Nast (Fine Needle Aspiration in the Diagnosis of Renal Disease), Dr. Richard Tracy (Renal Vasculopathies of Essential Hypertension), Dr. Lorraine Racusen (Etiologic and Prognostic Markers in Acute Renal Failure) and Dr. Wayne Hancock (New Approaches to Recognition and Control of Inflammatory and Immune Tissue Injury). The Renal Pathology Specialty Conference will be on Tuesday evening, March 4, from 7:30 until 9:30.
The Business Meeting will follow the Companion Meeting in the same room.
A reception for members and guests is planned for 6:00 PM at the Marriott Orlando World Center.
A dinner tentatively scheduled for Sunday evening, March 2 at 7:30, also at the Mariott, will be held in honor of nephropathology pioneers - Doctors Bernstein, Churg, Heptinstall, Pirani, McCluskey, and Spargo. More details will be mailed in January.
At the dinner, the first annual Jacob Churg Award will be given to an individual who has made major contributions to the field of Nephropathology. The monetary component of the Award is being supported at least in part by Barnet Hospital. The recipient will be selected by the Nominating and Awards Committee from nominations submitted to the Committee by RPS members.
Those wishing to nominate someone for the Jacob Churg Award should send a nominating letter and the nomineeÌs C.V. by January 31, 1997 to the Chair of the Nominations and Awards Committee, Dr. Vivette D'Agati, Department of Pathology, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, 630 W 168th Street, New York NY 10032. It is appropriate for an individual to be nominated by more than one member. Doctors Bernstein, Churg, Heptinstall, Pirani, McCluskey, and Spargo, who are already being honored at the dinner for their major contributions to nephropathology, are not eligible for the Jacob Churg Award.
