Kidney & Urology Foundation of America – Renal Pathology Society
Research Award

RPS

Sponsored by Kidney & Urology Foundation of America

Grants Guidelines

Application Deadline: June 16, 2008

Purpose

This Grant is intended to provide funding for innovative research in the field of renal pathology that is likely to lead to improved prevention, diagnosis or treatment of kidney disease.  Preference will be given to research that shows promise for generating data that will support the acquisition of additional research funding from other agencies (e.g. NIH) that will further amplify research on kidney disease.

Eligibility

The applicant must be an active member of the Renal Pathology Society, Inc.  Appointment to full-time faculty must be confirmed in writing by the Department Chair, providing assurance that the department will provide needed resources for conducting independent research (laboratory and office space, salary support, and protected research time). Members of KUFA-RPS Grants Committee are not eligible for grants during their term on the Committee. The candidate must have the training and experience required to complete the proposed research, and must have a faculty position and institutional resources that will allow successful completion of the proposed research.

Grant Amount

Two (2) awards of $5,000 each, beginning September 2, 2008 will cover expenses related to the candidate’s research proposal.  None of the award may be used to cover indirect costs at the candidate’s sponsoring institution.  All awardees’ checks will be made payable to the institution, not to individuals.

Previous or Current Funding Allowed

Applicants are allowed to have currently or have had previously, extramural (NIH or Foundation) award funding.

Use of Grant Funds

a. Supplies and Support Personnel – Any or all of the funds can be used for research supplies, animal costs, or salary support of research assistant or other support personnel (but not the PI or other faculty).

b. Equipment – Funds cannot be used to purchase equipment that costs more than $1,000 unless such purchase is clearly justified on the research plan.

c. Restrictions – Funds cannot be used for travel or clinical or administrative time; or for salary/fringe benefits of the PI or other faculty.

  • Appropriate institutional approval of use of human subjects or protected health information (e.g. IRB and HIPAA), or animal care and use (e.g. IACUC) must be obtained and documentation of this approval submitted with the grant proposal.

  • Publications that result from work supported by the Kidney & Urology Foundation of America must acknowledge such support.
