Renal Pathologist, Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix Pathologists Ltd. is currently recruiting for a full-time renal pathologist or surgical pathologist with renal subspecialty training to fill a vacant position.  This private practice, partnership-tract position located at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center (BGSMC), a tertiary care facility in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, requires fellowship training or experience in renal pathology.

Renal pathology at BGSMC dates back more than 20 years.  The service provides renal biopsy interpretation including immunofluorescence and electron microscopy to both Banner and non-Banner hospitals through-out the state.  In 2007, 949 kidney biopsies were processed at BGSMC, 80% of which required electron microscopy.  Approximately 15% of the renal biopsies were from renal allographs.  The renal transplant service at BGSMC has a long history dating back to 1969 and has performed more than 2500 renal transplants since that time.

The BGSMC pathology department is currently staffed by 9 full-time pathologists, one part-time pathologist and two PhDs, one in microbiology and one in chemistry.  The advertised position will share the renal pathology service with two experienced renal/surgical pathologists, and duties may require some general surgical pathology.

BGSMC is the flagship hospital of Banner Health, a non-profit organization which currently owns and operates 9 medical centers in Arizona.  It is located in sunny Phoenix, Arizona, a thriving metropolis with a strong, vibrant economy.  BGSMC has operated continuously since 1911, houses more than 650 beds and is a teaching hospital training more than 220 physicians annually.  Numerous subspecialties are represented at BGSMC including an active transplantation service for renal, pancreas and liver allographs.  Subspecialties at BGSMC have been consistently named to “America’s Best Hospitals” list by U.S. News and World Report, and in 2007 kidney disease was added to this list.  BGSMC is recognized as a “Magnet” facility, the highest honor a hospital can earn for its nursing care and practices.  In 2007 it was named a winner of the “Best Places to Work” in Arizona by the Phoenix Business Journal and the BestCompaniesAz.
